Local Rules & Regulations

There are fewer rules here than people assume, and most of them exist because something went wrong once. Each is listed with the reason, because a rule without a reason gets ignored and deserves to be.

Parking

No parking on the corner of Ash Street and Cedar Row, at any time. An ambulance could not get through in 2021 and it cost about four minutes. The restriction is ours, not the council’s, and it is enforced socially rather than legally — which works, so far.

Noise

Nothing amplified outdoors after ten in the evening, or before eight on a Sunday. Building work follows the same hours. Events in the park are exempt and are announced in advance.

Shared spaces

• The park is open dawn to dusk; the gate is not locked, but the lighting stops at nine.
• Dogs off the lead everywhere except the playground and the north field in summer, which is cut for the picnic.
• Barbecues in the park need a word with the committee first, purely so two do not end up on the same afternoon.

Alterations and extensions

Anything visible from the street is worth mentioning to neighbors before it is worth mentioning to a planner. This is not a rule, it is advice, and it has saved more disputes than every rule above combined.

Nearly every dispute we have mediated started with someone finding out about a change after it happened rather than before.

Disagreeing with any of this

Raise it at the open hour on the first Saturday of the month. Rules here have been changed by one person turning up and making a reasonable case, more than once.
